The needs of the person in recovery always come first in addiction treatment. What the person needs to heal from addiction provides a guide as to how to best approach this critical process. Addiction is a lifetime disease that requires constant monitoring and management. No matter a person’s socioeconomic background or age, anyone can develop an addiction. Even after many years of sobriety, a recovering substance user can relapse into a life of using again.

To obtain the best results for treating addiction, the person must attend a medically screened detox, formulate a plan, and decide with a team of medical professionals which treatment will best suit their needs. Some people will choose residential treatment when they complete the detox of their recovery program.

What Can I Expect From California Vistas Addiction Treatment?

California Highland Vistas is a leading addiction treatment center in sunny Southern California. Our goal is to provide our clients with the opportunity to achieve lifetime sobriety through our many levels of care. California Vistas is a certified and accredited center filled with specialists who are ready to make a difference in clients’ lives. While the style, duration, and types of therapy will depend on the individual’s needs, California Vistas has various treatments designed to help and guide people who are working through an addiction.

If you or someone you know has chosen California Vistas as their treatment center, they should expect the highest quality of care and devotion from our staff. The treatment offered here at our facility is among the best in the country.

California Vistas offers individualized and tailored treatment for each of our clients, and we understand the benefit of using a combination of approaches to treat this complicated matter. Our team understands the importance of quality from the food consumed, to the therapy sessions. This can be a tough process for even the strongest of individuals, but we believe our hands-on approach can help ease our clients’ concerns and answer their questions.

If a residential level of care is recommended during the planning of your treatment plan, we will personally customize your strategy to include individualized group therapies and sessions we find best for you. The assessment that takes place during the detox phase will include questions about your medical needs, psychological needs, and social needs. This will all be discussed in the medical plan, and while this is important, it can be changed at any time throughout treatment as we anticipate that your needs will change as you make progress in our program.

How long you stay at California Vistas depends on the best plan for your needs, but overall, the average treatment stay is a minimum of 30 days. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) recommends that the process‒from detox to completion‒should last 90 days for the best results. Residential care, however, could take a month before advancing to inpatient or outpatient treatment centers and beginning the journey back to an independent life.

Behavioral Therapy

Treatment plans typically institute a wide variety of therapy options, but behavioral therapies are the most common. The sole purpose of behavioral therapy is to begin altering the behaviors through motivation, incentive programs, and thought analysis. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a foundational principle that your behaviors begin with your thoughts, and the ability to control these thoughts by utilizing healthy coping skills will influence all behaviors. CBT is very common and is an extremely useful method of relapse prevention planning.

Group Therapy

While not everyone can be at the same step in their recovery, fellow recovering users have similar backgrounds that can uplift one another. California Vistas finds that this is an extremely valuable tool to help identify unique needs of support from not only the staff but those who are on this path to recovery as well. The patient can often feel alone even with the staff around them, but having people around them going through the same issues reminds them they are all in this together.

Motivational Interviewing

Identifying key issues is the primary objective of this step, and it works by encouraging clients to be positive and embrace change. The power of positive thought can help lead you to a positive outcome. Think it into reality. Once this process has been ingrained in the thoughts, real change can begin.

An important part of recovery is accepting who you are as a human being and how you belong in this world. The choices made during the height of your addiction will never change, but you can take control of the choices made as you move forward. Mindfulness is present at the core for treatment, and this can be achieved through meditation and focusing on the present. We help our clients discover how to incorporate these rituals into their daily routine.

Family Therapy

Addiction is often called a family disease because of how it affects everyone around you, including yourself. Our treatment center offers family therapy that is essential in treating the root of the problem. By doing this, each spectrum of the user’s life that have been damaged by addiction can begin the healing process.

Life Skills Training

Many people with addiction started at a young age and may not have learned basic life skills. No two stories are alike, but in some cases cooking, managing a budget, and certain areas that individuals take for granted have been completely neglected by those caught up in the whirlwind of addiction. During your treatment, we will provide you with the option to learn general nutrition such as meal prepping, creating a resume, self-care, bill payment, and how to manage a budget. Having anxiety about not knowing how to participate in society can also lead to the recurring cycle of addiction, but we will guide you in building a solid foundation for the future.

Is California Vistas Addiction Treatment Right for me?

There are many advantages to attending California Vistas Residential Treatment. We offer a customized approach for each person we treat, and it is delivered with results. There is no cookie-cutter approach to addiction, and we realize that all of our clients deserve our full, undivided attention in getting to the root of their issues. We boast a facility of highly trained professionals that are aware of and knowledgeable about the challenges that lie ahead. The facility is located in a quiet, beautiful, zen space that allows for our guests to open up and become lost within themselves and learn about who they are.

The space is unique and promotes natural healing, but it also offers 24 hour hours of care that allows for the structure that is needed. It removes obligations that can be overwhelming in other types of treatment and gives clients an opportunity to focus on themselves rather than areas they cannot control. We help you with transitional housing, maintaining employment, and other responsibilities outside of residential treatment.

The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) released an assessment that helps clinicians place patients in care that matches their needs. The ASAM Criteria will help our clients understand what best suits their needs for residential treatment.

Residential treatment is a high-level continuum of care that follows a medical detox. The ASAM criteria use six dimensions for a holistic approach to treatment. Many of those who detox still require medical monitoring which will dictate the appropriate response. There are many factors taken into account such as medical, psychological, and social needs, but the ASAM criteria are as follows:

  1. Acute intoxication/withdrawal potential: If the client has recently used or is currently intoxicated, they will require a higher level of care
  2. Biomedical conditions and complications: Medical conditions usually require a certain type of treatment meaning more intensive care is required
  3. Emotional, behavioral, or cognitive conditions and complications: Conditions such as mental health problems are notorious for fueling addiction, and these mental health illnesses must be addressed as they will need more intensive care
  4. Readiness to change:This could be the difference between continued sobriety or relapsing after being released.
  5. Relapse, continued use, or continued problem potential:Is the client ready? What is the chance of a relapse? Is more intensive treatment required?
  6. Recovery/living environment: Where will the client be released after recovery? Will drug use take place? Completely removing the client from that environment will promote long-term success

Long-term Care Options

Once the client completes these steps for treatment, the person has now been prepared for the long road ahead. The best plan is to have a plan, and during treatment, a long-term plan should be implemented. Starting to carefully plan out the resources and having them set in place will relieve some of the stresses that occur during newly founded sobriety. Emotions will be heightened at this point, and so will the triggers, but seeking out sober living homes, and long-term counseling can help counter these emotions.
