California is a beautiful state with many spectacular counties and cities. San Bernardino County is one such place. Many people visit here from around the state and world. Despite the very many excellent opportunities for residents in the state, alcohol abuse is a scourge that affects many people, from youth to adults.

The California Health Care Almanac published by the California Health Care Foundation reported that the state has a 6.4% percent rate of those with an alcohol use disorder. It also notes that alcohol addiction was more prevalent than any other substance use disorder. Additionally, from 2015 to 2016, 18- to 25- year-olds had the highest rate of alcohol addiction at 10.6%, with those over age 25 coming in second at 6.2%. Youth are particularly affected with alcohol abuse, as the report indicated 13.3% of students in seventh grade abused alcohol, more than 32% of those in ninth grade, and the highest of all were those in 11th grade at almost 52%.

Other substance use data found that alcohol accounted for more nonfatal emergency department visits than all other drug diagnoses combined, and 6.4% of the state’s population reported meeting criteria for abuse of or dependence on alcohol.

The state has an 18 percent rate of excessive adult drinking, which is a tad higher than the U.S. rate of the same at 17.6%, as America’s Health Rankings notes. Excessive drinking includes binge drinking, according to the National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse (NIAAA).

San Bernardino County is also affected by alcohol addiction. The county reported there were 1,116 admissions for alcohol addiction treatment from 2011 to 2020. Also, in 2019, 11 percent of serious vehicle collisions in the county involved alcohol, compared to 10 percent of collisions statewide.

Alcohol addiction does not have to take over your life, nor does it need to take your life. Substance use treatment for alcohol is readily available and not far from many locations in the county at California Highlands Vistas.

California Highlands Vistas Alcohol Rehab in San Bernardino County

Alcohol abuse and withdrawal can be life-threatening if you refuse help or feel like you can handle withdrawal on your own “cold turkey.” We feel that no one should have to go through this by themselves.

Our luxurious and quiet campus is located in an area that is rich in natural beauty allowing you to begin recovery in an environment that is serene and calm. Our caring and dedicated medical and substance abuse care teams are always with you, supporting and assisting you.

First-time clients will go through an assessment that determines their level of addiction and will help determine what types of addiction treatment you’ll need. When that is done, detox is usually required.

Detox

As the first and most critical step in substance use treatment, the goal of detox is to rid your body of all toxins safely and to keep you as comfortable as possible. Withdrawal from alcohol can produce symptoms that can be distressing and sometimes alarming, such as depression, elevated heart rate, vomiting, confusion, or seizures. When you are admitted into detox at California Highlands Vistas, you will be attended to around-the-clock to ensure you are medically stable and compassionately supported throughout the entire time. If you have underlying medical issues that need to be treated, our experienced staff is at hand to provide you with whatever is needed.

Detox usually lasts for about a week, sometimes more or less, depending on your specific needs. While you are under our care, we may treat you with medications that ease your symptoms and provide stabilization for your medical condition. Some that might be given are benzodiazepines, acamprosate, or disulfiram, which falls under Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). You may also be given over-the-counter medicines that alleviate nausea and vomiting. Our goal is to get you through detox safely so that you can move forward in your treatment of alcohol addiction.

Inpatient/Residential

This is often the next step in substance use treatment. Our inpatient/residential program provides scientifically proven behavioral therapies that focus on helping you learn where your alcohol abuse started, learn new strategies to cope with life’s most daunting challenges, and practice techniques to prevent relapse. One of the therapies you will participate in is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which focuses on learning and changing behaviors that contribute to alcohol abuse. We also offer dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) with a focus on being here in the present moment and not staying rooted in the past.

You will be expected to attend individual and group therapy sessions and may find some of the other groups we provide quite beneficial. Some of these are:

  • Trauma therapy
  • Coping strategies
  • Yoga
  • Process group therapy
  • Life skills development

We also have a chef on staff seven days per week, creating healthful, nutritious, and delicious meals and snacks.

Residential treatment is a smart option for you if you’ve tried outpatient treatment previously but continue to relapse. It is also useful if you need to be away from the stressors of everyday life and triggers to drink again. Many people find that receiving substance abuse treatment away from home works. We are a short drive from San Bernardino County, tucked into the hills. You are sure to feel and appreciate the quietness on our site, which is perfect for reflection.

Aftercare

We at California Highlands Vistas are pleased to provide aftercare. Our aftercare program was developed to give you much-needed support once your addiction treatment formally ends. We understand there are obstacles and challenges you will face when you leave us and start your life again without using alcohol, such as perhaps needing a temporary place to live or finding a job. We also have support meetings, fun gatherings and will always be there for you when you need us. You don’t have to face the outside world alone in recovery.

How long is rehab?

How long you are in rehab depends on your specific needs. What you should consider is if you will need detox, residential treatment, or just need outpatient care. Also, if you are struggling with a mental health disorder, like depression or anxiety, you may undergo dual diagnosis treatment, which treats your alcohol addiction and mental health disorder simultaneously. As a general guideline, most of our clients are in our care for 30 to 60 days. The National Institute on Drug Abuse found through research that 90 days (3 months) is the length of time an individual needs for addiction treatment to be most effective. You may or may not be in rehab that long.

Does California Highlands Vistas provide transportation?

One of the main obstacles to seeking help is getting to the treatment site and back home. This prevents many people from obtaining needed help. In light of that, we do provide transportation to and from our campus from the nearby airports, bus, and train stations. However, you will need to pay for any fares. If you have an outside appointment that you must attend, we can provide transportation for that.

How much does drug rehab cost?

The cost of drug rehab depends on your specific needs. We know we’re starting to sound like a broken record. But this is the honest truth. Your alcohol rehab may include detox, residential care, and medications. Generally, alcohol rehab can run from a few thousand dollars to more. Know that there are always options for determining the total cost and options for affording and paying for drug rehab.

Do I have to travel?

California Highlands Vistas is located in Fallbrook, CA. If you live in San Bernardino County, you will have to travel to our campus. Keep in mind that being away from the people, places, and things that trigger your alcohol use may just be what you need.
